On February 24th, 2025, the Peoples Official Plan Coalition submitted a letter to Mayor Mark Sutcliffe regarding the City of Ottawa’s response to tariffs and other geopolitical threats from the United States. Tariffs on Canadian exports to the United States would have significant and negative effects to the economy that would be felt across communities. POP recommended that City-driven action to strengthen resilience must also prioritize equity, justice and climate preparedness by means of improving local food sovereignty, energy sovereignty, and circular economy.
